Who We Are
Scooter's Bed and Biscuit is named in honor of, who else, Scooter! (pictured at left)
In 1995, Scooter was a sad looking little waif in a cage at the Humane Society of North Texas when Carol found her. She was four years old, unspayed and a shaggy mess! Her former owners told the shelter staff she "wasn't adapting to farm life". Perhaps that was because she was filthy and had very long fur which was full of burrs! Whatever the reason, it was the happiest day for both Carol and Scooter when they went home together. They had many adventures, living in Texas, New York, California and, eventually, Oregon. All along the journey, Scooter could be counted on to provide love and comfort and lots of fun and companionship to everyone who shared her life. In June of 2007, age caught up with the Angel Dog and she went to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for the rest of us. She is still very much a part of the fun at our B&B and we think about her every day.
The humans in charge of Scooter's Bed and Biscuit are Carol Cornwall and Dave Miller, veteran two-legged and four-legged kid care providers. Carol, founder of the business, got started caring for pets while in college at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX. Happily, after fourteen years of part-time work, she was able to take the business full-time and add boarding to the services offered. When a change in life provided her the opportunity to move to California, she was able to successfully grow the business again in her new location. A fringe benefit was meeting Dave! He's the one with experience in caring for human children. When a change within his family made finding daycare for his own two kids a necessity, Dave decided to jump in with both feet and Mr. Mom's Family Daycare was born. For 24 years, Mr. Mom's was a very well-respected and highlyrecommended daycare facility for scores of children in Cloverdale, CA. In August 2007, Dave retired from Mr. Mom's to move to Oregon with Carol to establish the new location of Scooter's Bed and Biscuit.

The canine staff at Scooter's includes Star, Director of Site Security, (far left) and Velvet, Director of Comforting (near left) . The safety and comfort of our guests are vitally important to us and we strive to continually improve our performance in these areas. The addition of these two key staff positions assures that every guest at Scooter's Bed and Biscuit will be catered to and protected while staying with us.
"Carol and Dave~ Thank you for loving our Doodles while we were on our honeymoon! It was reassuring to know that she was staying at her second home. I am sure she will be sitting by the door tomorrow morning begging to go back to Scooter's!"
Diana, Katie Doodles' Mom
"Carol and David run a well thought-out, caring, responsible service where pets are people. They have combined years of pet knowledge, caring for their own pet friends, working with Canine Companions for Independence, and working for pet hospitals, to create a loving and fun environment to promote happy dogs." Dr. Amy Smith, DVM, Cloverdale (CA) Animal Hospital
Safety
You might wonder why you don't see our exact location featured here on our website. That's because we are very aware of safety at Scooter's Bed and Biscuit. We have heard too many stories of doggies being stolen from boarding and daycare facilities to be comfortable putting our address on the internet. Our farm is just one mile south of Highway 212, right in Damascus. We'll give you our address when you call to make your reservation.
We are also aware of the safety of our dog areas. Our property is completely fenced and we keep our entry gate closed at all times. In addition to this security, our play yard is enclosed by a five foot fence and double entry gate. When the dogs are outside off leash, there are always at least two barriers between them and freedom. Our playroom has a dog door leading out to the play yard, which can be closed to keep the dogs indoors when necessary. While inside, the dogs are kept from the door of the building by a permanent gate.
Should the need ever arise to evacuate our property, we have a plan and are prepared to ensure your pet is safe and secure. We have many dog crates and vehicles which are large enough to accommodate all the dogs in our care.
Due to Dave's 24 years ensuring the safety of the children in his care in his daycare business, we are continually upgrading and adding to the security of our facility. We welcome your suggestions, too. Tell us what you have seen at other places which could help us at Scooter's.
